Cool Blue Intense (NEXT GEN) Xenon – more light on the road
The Xenarc Cool Blue Intense next-generation gas discharge lamp is a new product from German manufacturer Osram that not only promises a xenon look, but is also produced as a xenon headlight bulb. According to the manufacturer, the gas discharge lamp emits an extra blue-white light, achieved not by a coating on the glass bulb, but by a special gas filling within the bulb.
Advantages of Xenarc Cool Blue Intense
The new Osram xenon bulb, with car light of up to 6200 Kelvin, achieves excellent illumination of the road even in poor visibility. The luminous efficacy is around 20 percent higher than comparable car bulbs and up to 150 percent higher than standard xenon bulbs. This shortens the driver's reaction time when an obstacle suddenly appears on the road. The headlight light has greater contrast, ensuring greater attention and improved visibility for other road users in vehicles and on the sidewalk. The xenon bulb gives the vehicle a hypermodern look. The illuminated area in front of the vehicle and the side edges of the road are better illuminated with the Cool Blue Intense Xenarc. The produced blue light has a cool color temperature. The car bulb is approved for road use and ECE-compliant. A not to be underestimated advantage occurs in the rain. While pure blue light is almost lost in the rain, the Osram xenon bulb provides excellent illumination. Osram offers a four-year warranty on original Xenarc lamps.
What is the difference between the Cool Blue Intense and the Xenarc Cool Blue Intense (NEXT GEN)?
A halogen lamp is similar to an incandescent lamp because the light is generated by a filament. The Xenarc xenon bulb is filled with xenon gas. The light is generated by the gas discharge. For this to work, the xenon bulb must be connected to the electrical circuit. Ignition is achieved via a ballast. The current flows through the glass bulb and causes the enclosed gas to glow between two diodes. Therefore, blue gas produces a bluish light without a coating on the glass bulb.

The letter "D" stands for "discharge." The number indicates the version. Replacing D1 and D2 bulbs with D3 and D4 bulbs is not possible because the vehicle's control unit would have to be replaced at the same time.
The Osram Cool Blue Intense in the test
Compared to the Osram Night Breaker at 4600 Kelvin, the color components are more in the blue range. However, the test showed that in daily use the light shines more white than blue. However, the blue light component can increase further in xenon bulbs after burning in. The light output is comparable to original equipment quality xenon bulbs. Because the glass bulb is not coated, the light is distributed evenly. The test confirms that the xenon car bulb has a long service life (up to 1800 hours for B3 and 2800 hours for Tc). The service life is about four times longer than that of halogen bulbs. Xenon bulbs shine much more effectively than halogen bulbs. This corresponds to the service life of comparable headlight bulbs. Depending on the specification, they are shipped in a hard box or a folding box. The manufacturer recommends having xenon bulbs replaced by a specialist workshop if you are unsure.
